Ooh, myyyy preeeesssshhhhusssss.
Can you picture me whispering that sinisterly while stroking a golden ring? No? Yeah, me either.
Only my precious isn’t a golden ring. It’s this:
This is my Nutrimill grain grinder. I love it. Sometimes, I think I might want to marry it. The Chick Magnet loves it too, so he might be okay with that.
When I tell people I grind my own wheat to make my own bread, they usually look at me like I have grown a second head.
“What? You grind your own grain? You must spend all day in the kitchen! You must be crazy! (Okay, that part is debatable). You must have no life. I could never do that. That just sounds too hard! And why in the world would you ever want to do that anyway?”
Ohhhh, my pets. Allow me to demonstrate just how lazy I truly am with the following tutorial titled, “How to Grind Wheat”. Alternately titled, “Please don’t look at the messy kitchen in the background, or my crazy post-workout-haven’t-had-time-for-a-shower-yet-hairdo, or my arm flab because you know I’m super sensitive about that, and yes, I do realize that my bra strap is showing, thanks for pointing that out though, ever observant blog reader.”
On second thought maybe you should notice those things because then you will understand just how lazy I am-too lazy to clean my kitchen or take a shower ro fix my hair and apparently my bra strap, and you will finally be convinced that you, too, can grind your own wheat. And your name doesn’t even have to be Laura Ingalls or The Little Red Hen.
Step 1. Plug in grinder
Step 2. Pour in wheat (purchased at Wal-mart for $12.88 for a 25-pound bag)
Step 3. Get an upper body workout by putting the lid on.
Step 4. You will want to pay close attention to this one. Turn. Grinder. On.
Step 5. Take a break from all of that hard work.
Step 6. Ooh and aah over your beautiful, fresh flour.
Step 7. Store flour in the freezer to preserve its freshly-ground goodness.
Step 8. Thank your hard-working Nutrimill. Kissing it is optional.
Step 9. Go take a nap. You deserve it!
Now, for the really awesome, mind-blowing, blow-your-socks-off news. Laura, over at Heavenly Homemakers, is giving away a Nutrimill on her blog!
I know right? Unbelievable! Can you believe your good fortune?
You can enter a total of 8 times for 8 chances to win! Rock on!
Would you like to win your own grinder? Head on over to Laura’s blog and enter to win!
Disclaimer: I was not paid anything to write this post. I just really, really, really, really, really love my Nutrimill. I, maybe even more than the Nutrimill (I know, sacrilegious right?), I love providing healthy, homemade breads and baked goods for my family. Although, I did enter to win the Nutrimill and if by chance I get it, I will give it away on MY blog.
You like apples? How about them apples? (You get my undying respect and a gold star if you can tell me where that quote came from.)

I use a stone-mill hand grinder. Never even thought about buying one that plugs in. lol Great giveaway!
Super fun post! Thanks for the giggles!!! You have a lovely sense of humor! =)
Thanks! Sometimes I get in a mood and act like a 3 year old.
well, I know that quote was in the movie Good Will Hunting…
Yes! LOVE that movie!
DUH! Good Will Hunting…thought you had me didn’t ya?
I entered this morning, but I just had to comment on your hilarious post. I love the pictures! The one of The Chick Magnet staring into the mill of ground flour is priceless. Seriously, the Nutrimill people should make you a spokesperson.
I’d be on board with that! I had so much fun writing that post!
Matt Damen said “You like apples? How about them apples?” in “Good Will Hunting” when he got the girl’s phone number in the bar.
Yes! I LOVE that movie and that is one of the best scenes in the whole movie-the whole bar scene. Very good!
Very funny, cute post. I’m curious, do you use a bread maker or knead your bread by hand? I have a bread maker but have found that with just two of us in our house, it can lead to trouble in terms of eating less! Fresh bread is so delicious.
Thank you! I do not have a breadmaker, but I do have a Bosch mixer which pretty much does all of the work for me.
I love my whisper mill, so I can relate to you. And having recently discovered Prairie Gold, I am on a whole wheat roll. I love that wheat! My kids will eat 100% whole wheat anything, whereas before they really disliked anything whole wheat.
Love your post too! And Good Will Hunting, right?
You got it! One of my favorites! The flour is so wonderful and fine and fluffy, much different than you can get at the store. Have you tried grinding any other grains yet? I haven’t ventured that far but I would love to make corn and oat flour.
I am super excited about that giveaway! I hope, hope, hope I win. I’ve been baking from scratch all of our bread for the last year or so and I would love to be able to grind my own grain!
Good Will Hunting…great movie
Erica-go buy a bag of wheat and I would be happy to grind it for you!!!

I’ve read this one before, but I just had to read it again… I LOVE the pictures! I just got a sign from a coworker that says ” Good moms have laundry piles, dust bunnies, and happy kids”. So I’m ok with you having a messy kitchen. (I couldn’t even see any mess BTW)

If you look closely in the picture behind Chick Magnet you can see counters full of junk
I like that quote-I should be doing pretty good then because I have plenty of all three!!!
