You ask, I deliver!
This bread is so yummy and easy, a great accompaniment to a warm bowl of soup, a hearty bowl of chili or like we had it this week, a savory pork roast. This recipe is adapted from this one found on allrecipes.com, my all-time favorite resource for recipes on-line.
Ingredients:
3 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
1/4 Cup brown sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
12 ounces beer
1/4 Cup butter, melted
Directions:
Mix flour, brown sugar, baking powder and seasonings. Add beer and mix until moistened. Spread in buttered bread pan. Pour melted butter on top. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

The original recipe calls for self-rising flour, which I don’t use since I make my own. If you do use it, be sure you decrease the salt to 1/2 teaspoon and baking powder to 1 teaspoon. You can change up the seasonings as you wish. You can also use any kind of carbonated beverage in the place of the beer, but I like it this way.
I have tried this with and without the butter on top, and both ways taste great. The butter just gives it a nice crunch on top, but you could decrease to 2 tablespoons and get the same effect with fewer calories.
Sometimes I double the recipe and stick a loaf in the freezer. Another fun idea would be to mix together the dry ingredients and put in a mason jar, attach the recipe with a pretty ribbon and give it as a gift-all that needs to be added is the beer and butter.
See? What did I tell you? Simple, right? And much better than store bought!
Enjoy!

Looks lovely. Have never tried bread made with beer so must get my BF to give it a go some time – he’s the bread person in the house, I do the soup.
Really like the gift idea too.
Have I told you lately that I love you??? LOL Thank you for posting this recipe! I’ve been in a bread making mood lately…(did I mention almost burning down my kitchen while at church one Sunday morning? Let’s just say, I’ll never use my bread machine while gone from home again!).
I am so thankful for your blog. You encourage me daily to fight harder against this battle of the bulge, you make me want to be a better home cook, food provider to my children, and a more loving wife to my husband! Did you ever imagine by sharing your journey that you would touch strangers in such a huge way?
No, Lori, I didn’t. I started my blog pretty selfishly-I wanted you all to help me LOL. And you do-SO much. Thank you so much for your encouragement and kind words. I hope you enjoy the recipe…without burning up your kitchen!
